With the release of the 2016 Mazda Miata, Mishimoto engineers developed a direct-fit Miata oil catch can system to help protect the engine from harmful blow-by. Direct injection engines, such as the one in the 2016 Miata, are prone to accelerated carbon build-up due to the absence of port injection, which normally washes the valves with fuel during operation.

During examination of the intake manifold, a significant coating of oil was observed, originating from the PCV system. This contributed to carbon accumulation and a decrease in octane levels. The Mishimoto Miata catch can system is designed to prevent this blow-by from reaching the intake, resulting in a cleaner running engine.

The Mazda Miata oil catch can kit features Mishimoto's 2-port Compact Baffled Oil Catch Can with a bronze filter and internal baffle for improved separation of oil from crankcase vapors. Two direct-fit hoses and an application-specific bracket allow for quick and simple installation.

Installation Notes: 22 in-lbs (2.5NM) recommended for all worm-gear clamps. These clamps have an operating range of 18-27 in-lbs (2-3NM). Do not exceed the maximum torque rating of 27 in-lbs (3NM).

Recommendation: After installation, Mishimoto recommends checking the contents of the baffled catch cans every 500 miles until a baseline is established. Oil blow-by accumulation will vary with ambient temperatures and driving conditions. It is important that the contents of the can do not rise above the internal baffle.
