SCHROTH Racing: German Aviation Safety on the Racetrack

When you are charging into a corner at 250 km/h, the only thing keeping you from a fatal flight is a few strips of webbing. You have to trust them with your life. SCHROTH Racing is a company that has been manufacturing restraint systems for over 70 years, not just for motorsport, but for aviation (from Airbus passenger jets to F-16 fighters). This is the brand that sets the standards for FIA and NASCAR. Nearly every Formula 1 team uses SCHROTH harnesses.

ATOMIC-SHOP is an official dealer of SCHROTH. We offer more than just "interior tuning"; we offer professional driver restraint systems. From unique QuickFit harnesses for track days to professional 6-point Enduro systems for 24-hour marathons. SCHROTH is the insurance policy that is always with you.

The Main Threat: What is "Submarining"?

To understand the greatness of SCHROTH technology, you must understand crash physics. In a frontal impact, the pilot's body is thrown forward. If the harness is poorly designed, the pelvis can slide under the lap belt. This is called "submarining."
The consequences are catastrophic: the belt rides up into the soft abdominal tissue, causing life-threatening internal injuries.

ASM® Technology: The Savior for 4-Point Belts

Classic 4-point belts are dangerous precisely because of the submarining risk (which is why many track organizations ban them). SCHROTH solved this problem by inventing and patenting the ASM® (Anti-Submarining Technology) system.

On the inboard shoulder belt, there is a special "energy converter"—a stitched fold of webbing. Upon impact, this stitching rips, allowing the belt to elongate slightly.
What does this do? It allows the torso to rotate slightly. This rotation forces the pelvis down firmly into the seat, preventing it from sliding under the lap belt. Thanks to ASM®, SCHROTH belts are the only 4-point harnesses in the world that have passed TUV crash tests and are street legal.

QuickFit Series: Tuning Without a Roll Cage

Owners of BMW, Mini, Audi, VW, Subaru, and Toyota GT86 face a dilemma: how to install racing harnesses without a roll cage and without drilling the floor?
SCHROTH created the ingenious QuickFit series.
Click-In: The belts click into the factory rear seatbelt receptacles and front mounting points.
Removable: You can install them in 2 minutes before a track day and remove them in the evening to carry passengers in the back.
Safe: Equipped with ASM and tested to work in harmony with factory airbags.

Professional Series: Profi vs. Enduro

For cars with roll cages, SCHROTH offers uncompromising 6-point solutions.

Model Adjusters Features
Clubman Steel, standard. Entry Level. Reliable, heavier than Profi, affordable price. Ideal for club racing and amateurs.
Profi Aluminum, lightweight (Flexi Belt). Professional. Lightest components. Ability to change mounting type (bolt-in or snap-hook). The choice for Sprint racing.
Enduro ZIP Adjuster. Long Distance. Features large "hand loops" on adjusters. Allows tightening the belts with one quick downward pull. Critical for driver-change pit stops.

Anatomy: Why 2 Inches is Better Than 3

Previously, wide 3-inch (75mm) lap belts were the standard. It was thought that wider meant less pressure. SCHROTH proved this wrong.
The human pelvic bone (iliac crest) has a specific shape. A wide 3-inch belt often rides up over the crest onto the soft stomach tissue or doesn't fit snugly.
SCHROTH introduced 2-inch (50mm) lap belts. They fit perfectly into the "pocket" of the pelvic bones, ensuring much tighter fixation and reduced injury risk. This is now the new FIA 8853-2016 standard.

HANS (FHR) Compatibility

If you use a HANS device, you need specific shoulder belts. SCHROTH makes belts that taper from 3 inches (at the adjuster) to 2 inches (over the shoulder). This allows the belt to fit perfectly into the groove of the HANS device without sliding off or creating bulk.
Important: SCHROTH is a licensed manufacturer and developer of HANS devices. No one knows integration better than they do.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Do harnesses expire?

Yes. According to FIA standards — 5 years from the date of manufacture. UV light, sweat, and dirt degrade the nylon structure over time, causing it to lose elasticity. After a serious crash, belts must be replaced, even if they look fine (they have stretched to absorb energy).

How do I mount the belts: bar wrap or bolt-in?

Most SCHROTH Profi series belts feature the Wrap Around system. You can remove the metal snap-hook and simply wrap the webbing around the roll cage bar. This is the lightest and most secure method, eliminating metal-on-metal rattling.

What makes the SCHROTH Camlock different?

SCHROTH uses a patented lightweight rotary camlock. Its internals are made of carbon and aerospace aluminum. It doesn't jam from dirt or dust. A key feature is that you can insert the belt tongues one by one, rather than having to puzzle them together like with cheaper brands. This saves frustration when strapping in.
